    within Erasmus MC Continuous improvement It is in keeping with Erasmus MC s ambition to also continuously monitor and improve the quality of its care itself through new initiatives Having been awarded the NIAZ accreditation is an extra impetus towards the further development of the quality policy The pivotal question in this is determining how the patient will receive the best possible care Erasmus MC therefore regularly monitors its activities and attempts to improve them An example of this is the internal review Departments are visited by colleagues who have been trained as auditors and carry out the reviews on the basis of the NIAZ norm The organization has also been equipped with a system for reporting incidents or near incidents and learning from them and a single system for storing and managing all treatment protocols The latter system allows Erasmus MC to guarantee that its care providers work in accordance with the latest protocols This improves the quality and safety of the care Performance indicators The performance indicators provide insight into Erasmus MC s performance each year For a large number of complaints it shows how the organization performs in comparison to other hospitals The performance indicators allow patients to determine which hospital best suits their needs with regard to the treatment and care offered Click here for the Erasmus MC performance indicators The data of all Dutch hospitals can be found at www kiesbeter nl or www ziekenhuizentransparant nl Patient satisfaction Patient experiences are an inportant source of information to improve our care That s why Erasmus MC frequently conducts a patient satisfaction survey in which we assess patient satisfaction about the various care aspects such as bedside manner communication waiting times and the ward It is important to do this using a valid method The Consumer Quality
