    has been given to him at the Velo City Global conference in Copenhagen for his dedication to international cooperation and expertise on sustainable transport and poverty alleviation Roelof Wittink I CE director The Danish Cycling Embassy is a network of local governments companies and civil society organisations to offer international support and cooperation with Denmark as a cycling country The Danish Cycling Embassy shares with I CE the aim to promote bicycling with transfer expertise and experiences on the integration of cycling in policies The award celebrates 8 years of support to local organizations and initiatives by I CE with a subsidy by the Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation I CE built up partnerships with civil society organizations governments universities agencies and the bicycling industry to integrate cycling in international cooperation In this period cycling also arrived on the global climate agenda and it has become a subject for economic cooperation Since cycling is an important component for a paradigm shift in mobility strategies it seems to become a symbol for sustainable transport lively cities and social and economic development In the Netherlands we see a growing interest for our role as interface more governments and companies governors and professionals

    for the city has advertised the construction of seven new inner city projects Although there are no environmental authorisations needed for the project the city has invited interested and affected parties to comment on the construction plans to minimise disruptions Work is starting on NMT routes along Bree Street from Shortmarket Street to North Wharf Square and along Adderley Street from Strand Street to Wale Street City project manager Paul Booth said repair work on Government Avenue would improve this pedestrian access between Wale and Annandale Streets Orange Street above Government Avenue Although there will be no bicycle access in Government Avenue before the World Cup repairs and upgrades to the paving in the area will make this route more pedestrian friendly The construction of an NMT route along Old Marine Drive outbound has started but has been put on hold The NMT routes from Cape Town Station to the North Wharf via Thibault Square and upgrades to Shortmarket Street are expected to start soon Projects already under construction include NMT upgrades to Somerset and Main Roads in Green Point the construction of a pedestrian bridge across Buitengracht at Coen Steytler Avenue and NMT improvements to Waterkant from Adderley Streets Waterkant Street will be part of the official Fan Walk linking Green Point and the stadium preceinct with Cape Town station and the inner city Buitengracht will only be closed in both directions at night or over the weekend to avoid traffic congestion Chief traffic inspector Merle Lourens said traffic would be diverted around the site and back onto Buitengracht via Strand Street Chiappini Street and Somerset Road while the road is closed to outbound traffic When the inbound carriageway is closed traffic will be diverted via Riebeek Bree and Strand Streets There will be no traffic access to Waterkant
