    have much time to sit behind their desk and study Therefore the course material is designed to help students to use all the spare moments they have to study Dutch All the dialogues from the text book that was selected for its many vivid and realistic dialogues are on the 5 cd s so you can learn Dutch by listening to the cd s while cycling doing the dishes etc Students will also get a lot of Dutch songs to listen to and sing along with music sticks to the memory a lot stronger than other kinds of text Just listening to the songs all translated into English twice or three times a day will give you a vocabulary of hundreds of words with hardly any effort In class the focus will be on the speaking exercises of the tekstboek preparing you for real life conversations In order to allow students to participate fully in the conversation exercises there will be a maximum of 8 participants in a class In the werkboek exercise book you ll find a big variety of reading writing and listening exercises to practice the new words and grammar It is designed to be used for self study so you can do and check the exercises at home To get fluent in Dutch just the dialogues and exercises in textbooks won t be enough To get the students exposed to a lot more written and spoken Dutch I use many novels to read or audio books to listen to Starting with special easy to read novels for foreigners to end with thrillers written for native speakers Television programs that can be watched with Dutch subtitles are used to Contrary to some other methods quite some attention will be given to grammar This is because you cannot

    te verstaan De televisieserie Pocoyo is ook leuk en goed te volgen Little Fox kids heeft veel filmpjes op youtube met Engelse ondertitels zoals meet the animals makkelijke informatieve filmpjes over dieren Een stapje moeilijker zijn de filmpjes van Sesame Street bijvoorbeeld van Bert and Ernie en de animatieserie Bert and Ernie s great adventures Weer een stap moeilijker maar erg leuk zeker voor dino liefhebbers is de serie Dinosaur train De filmpjes van Horrid Henry zijn al wat moeilijker maar er zijn er veel met Engelse ondertiteling Als je naar animatieseries zoek op youtube is het handig episode aflevering toe te voegen aan de zoekopdracht om andere talen en spelletjes etc eruit te filteren Ook als je zoekt op learn English with cartoons of cartoons English subtitles vind je allerlei filmpjes met Engelse ondertiteling Boeken Ik lees ook veel prentenboeken voor Mijn favoriete boeken zijn ongeveer in volgorde van toenemende moeilijkheid de Little Bear boeken van Else Holmelund Minarik Sesamstraat boeken zoals The monster at the end of this book The very hungry caterpillar van Eric Carle The Pencil van Allan Ahlberg Stuck en Lost and found van Oliver Jeffers Dora en Diego boekjes de I can read serie van uitgeverij Harper We re going on a bear hunt van Michael Rosen What pet to get van Emma Dodd de originele en grappige verhalen van Arnold Lobel zoals Frog and Toad Owl at home Small Pig en Mouse Soup alle Winnie the Witch boeken van Valerie Thomas niet Laura Owen en Korky Paul te koop met als hoorspel voorgelezen cd s de verhalen van Curious George van Rey NB naast The complete adventures of Curious George is er ook nog het boek A Treasury of Curious George posthuum geschreven in de stijl van de oorspronkelijke schrijvers Het verhaal Curious George flies a kite is een van de makkelijkste verhalen The Gruffalo en The Gruffalo s child van Julia Donaldson ook te koop met cd Voor iets meer gevorderde lezers zijn de verhalen van Robert Munsch leuk en zeer geschikt vanwege de vele herhalingen in de tekst en de Amelia Bedelia boekjes met veel woordspelingen met dubbele betekenissen De Popcorn ELT readers makkelijke boekjes naar populaire animatiefilms zijn handig wegens de verschillende niveaus en bijbehorende cd s maar lezen als een samenvatting Hetzelfde geldt voor de Penguin Kids Series van Pearson naar Disney films De bijbehorende on line audiobestanden zijn ook te beluisteren zonder de boeken te kopen Beide series kun je ook vinden bij de openbare bibliotheek Op youtube staan veel prentenboeken voorgelezen door native speakers ideaal voor een goede uitspraak Je vindt bijna al bovengenoemde boeken en duizenden andere boeken met de plaatjes uit het boek en soms animatiefilmpjes erbij Zoek ook op Arwen Sharp die veel boeken voor kleine kinderen voorleest Liedjes Natuurlijk is het zingen van liedjes ook een prima manier om Engels te leren Makkelijke liedjes zijn bijvoorbeeld If you re happy and you know it clap your hands Head shoulders knees and toes Row
