  • Granting the “Retrieve People Data for Search Crawlers” administration permission on the User Profile Service Application using PowerShell - Blog - Mavention
there are organizations that don t allow manual modifications to the Farm configuration and require scripts to perform any changes In the past I wrote an article on how you can grant permissions to the User Profile Service Application using PowerShell Although granting administration permissions is very similar there are some important differences between the two scripts Following is the PowerShell script that you can use to grant the Retrieve People Data for Search Crawlers permission to an account param accountName claimType http schemas microsoft com sharepoint 2009 08 claims userlogonname claimValue accountName claim New Object Microsoft SharePoint Administration Claims SPClaim claimType claimValue http www w3 org 2001 XMLSchema string Microsoft SharePoint Administration Claims SPOriginalIssuers Format Windows claim ToEncodedString upa Get SPServiceApplication TypeName eq User Profile Service Application accessControl upa GetAdministrationAccessControl rights Microsoft SharePoint Administration AccessControl SPCentralAdministrationRights accessControl NamedAccessRights Name eq Retrieve People Data for Search Crawlers Rights GetHashCode SPAclAccessRule Type Microsoft SharePoint Administration AccessControl SPAclAccessRule 1 specificSPAclAccessRule SPAclAccessRule MakeGenericType Type Microsoft SharePoint Administration AccessControl SPCentralAdministrationRights ctor SpecificSPAclAccessRule GetConstructor Type Microsoft SharePoint Administration Claims SPClaim Type Microsoft SharePoint Administration AccessControl SPCentralAdministrationRights accessRule ctor Invoke Microsoft SharePoint Administration Claims SPClaim claim rights accessControl AddAccessRule accessRule upa SetAdministrationAccessControl accessControl upa Update The biggest difference between the two scripts is that while previously we were able to directly specify the desired permission in this case we have to retrieve it from the User Profile Service Application lines 11 and 13 The reason for that is that the administration permission is a combination of other permissions and there is no type available in API to specify it directly Similarly to the previous script you can use the script above by passing the account name to which you want to grant the permission as the first parameter Set UpaRetrievePeopleDataForSearchCrawlersPermission ps1 edge administrator Update 8 8

  • Azure API Management delete users - Blog - Mavention
password There is no e mail restriction so you can use an unmonitored alias or non existing one However the Azure API Management Service will try to send notifications to the provided address so it might be useful to provide a monitored alias Once a user is created it will appear in the user overview A newly created user will have no subscriptions but he or she can already be blocked Blocking a user will prevent him from logging in or accessing any subscriptions they might have If a user is active he or she can subscribe to the published products that are visible for them and depending on the configuration there a subscription is active or requires approval from an Administrator Obviously an administrator can also revoke any permissions the user has on a certain product and all available API s So when terminating a user an administrator has two options access can be revoked for one or more products prevent users from accessing that product But users can also be blocked preventing them to access all products Once a user is created however he or she can not be deleted by an administrator So in a scenario where the administrator create several users for applications that will be using Azure API Management that same administrator cannot delete these created users So if that administrator would have multiple applications and create multiple users for those the overview could get cluttered especially if those users are no longer used and should have been deleted The only one that can delete a user account and prevent it from showing up in the user overview is the user it self So if an administrator would like to delete an user he created he should log in with the credentials of that user

  • Adding Site Logo Not Working Properly - Blog - Mavention
is missing For creating the site I used a custom web template I compared it with the default site template I noticed some features were missing in my web template One of them was the Assets Library feature I added that feature and voila Assets Library Feature ID 4bcccd62 dcaf 46dc a7d4 e38277ef33f4 It solved my issue Link From Computer Not Working The second issue is that the link From Computer seemed to work just fine but not entirely This option you can use to select an image from your computer and SharePoint will upload that image to the Site Assets library and sets the URL in the site logo textbox This last step didn t occur To ensure that I did not accidently clicked Cancel I did one more time Yep same result no URL This is what I expected This is what I got as a result While analyzing the process the image I selected was uploaded to the Site Assets library Then I checked this library and the project code if any customization was done I noticed that a custom Document content type was added to this library and that the default one Document was removed I added the default Document content type back to the library and that was the solution So the Document content type is a MUST HAVE in the Site Assets library in order to have Site Logo Settings work properly I did some more testing Can I hide the Document content type then No it does break it all as well Can I set my custom Content Type as default then Yes not a problem Conclusion There it is Two Site Logo Setting issues solved I can tell you now do not mess with basic SharePoint functionality and check double check all

  • SPSiteDataQuery not returning any data - Blog - Mavention
the SPSiteDataQuery object was not returning data although there were enough records that would match the query For example Suppose you have a simple custom list in WSS MOSS that contains just two fields 1 Title 2 Email address This list contains the following records User A user a domain com User B user b domain com User C As you can see in the list above User C has no filled in email address To query this list you could configure the SPSiteDataQuery object as below SPList list web Lists Testlist SPSiteDataQuery query new SPSiteDataQuery query Lists string Format Lists List ID 0 Lists list ID query ViewFields FieldRef Name Email query RowLimit 25 As you can see I defined the ViewFields property to display the email field But what will happen when the field in question has no data entered by the user as User C in our example When the query hits a field with no data entered by the user it will abort the query completely and will not return any records Why not just skipping the records that do not match the query I don t know but the good news is that you can

  • Least-privileged administration in SharePoint 2013 : SQL Server Role DBCREATOR - Blog - Mavention
sufficient to have the roles DBCREATOR and SECURITYADMIN applied Like described on TechNet these roles can do the following tasks Dbcreator Members of the dbcreator fixed server role can create alter drop and restore any database Securityadmin Members of the securityadmin fixed server role manage logins and their properties They can GRANT DENY and REVOKE server level permissions They can also GRANT DENY and REVOKE database level permissions if they have access to a database Additionally they can reset passwords for SQL Server logins Let s take this into practice In my case I have the following setup account MAVEN sp install This account is Local Administrator on all SharePoint servers and has a SQL Server login with the server roles DBCREATOR and SECURITYADMIN Creating databases In one of my previous posts I talked about the advantages of pre creating databases for SharePoint Every database in SQL has some initial values based on the Model database In my example I have the following default values set in the Model database But here s the thing When I login with MAVEN sp install into SQL Server Management Studio and I create a new database I get the following results Not the values I have set in the Model database Although you are allowed to create databases you do not have read access to the Model database Hence the different initial values Also when you browse to the SQL Logins and opens the User Mappings of one of the logins you ll get a message Once again this is due to not having access to the Model database So how disturbing is this It depends In most large companies there is someone that is responsible for SQL Server environments aka the SQL Database Administrator This DBA can help you with creating databases
