  • MK1 version was cobbled together in true Heath Robinson style in the shed This at least proved that the concept was sound I e by placing the 4th cell inside the head adjacent to the 3 main cells an accurate consistent reading could be achieved I dived the home made version throughout the 2004 season with great results Dives were in the 10 80M range using air trimix diluents During the autumn winter of 2004 I was approached by a friend who had taken the concept had a CAD design drawn up After slight modifications to the drawing we had a prototype MK2 made up out of white Nylon This was checked dimensionally in a scrubber test dives were carried out early 2005 The design was tweaked a production run was ordered from a contact that I have in the precision engineering industry The production version is made from black Delrin pom h is of an extremely high quality the same fella makes parts for nuclear subs but we can t mention that One of the main design criteria was that no permanent modification should be necessary to the rebreather to enable fitting of the 4th cell this was achieved by placing the cable entries in an extended portion of the cell centre tube see photo below The version shown is the double option This is to allow 2 VR3s to be connected to 2 separate cells in effect a 4th 5th cell All the centre tubes are drilled to take upto 5 R22 bud or similar cells Due to the fact that no drilling of the unit is involved fitting is pretty straightforward anybody can do it honest If preferred Fischer connectors can be fitted to the cell holder in lieu of cable glands a double ended cable would

    Rebreather Instructor Trainer TDI IANTD Inspiration Instructor I can also teach Dräger Dolphin and Atlantis and the OMG Azimuth I dive about 100 dives a year most technical dives 99 made on a rebreather I bought a Dräger Dolphin an Inspiration and a IDA71y and a Dräger Ray I feel I am very lucky because in the navy I had had the opportunity to dive several SCR and CCR units for example Carleton Viper Divex Stealth OMG units and more I decided to modify my Inspiration to a FFM configuration after I dove the Divex Stealth I think it is very important to dive FFM on rebreathers There are several reasons as you might know I m sure you understand I bought a used FFM in 2004 and I shipped it to Tracy Robinette of Divematics in California USA I asked him to add a OC DSV unit to the mask He did a very good job but it took some time to get it back At first the FFM was delivered with an Oceanic second stage I immediately noticed that it was not working properly I think it is because it is a balanced second stage So I asked Tracy to sent me a different second stage he was very quick in delivering me a better regulator a Aqualung second stage Now I dive my FFM with a Aqualung regulator and it works really good The breathing resistance on OC is pretty good even if you switch to normal air at 40 45 meter Deeper than that it is pretty hard to breath on normal air If you dive deeper of course you are diving Trimix with less density and less breathing resistance I decided to put a quick connection system on my LP hoses in order to be able to switch from bottom gas to deco gas in case of a Bail Out situation I bought the GSC from Ambient Pressure Diving 2 female and one male connector on a 45cm LP hose I did not like the GSC due to the fact the breathing resistance is to high resulting in difficult breathing even in 25 meters of water in addition is pretty hard to disconnect and connect the hoses I found a different company in Italy who makes same connectors and I am planning to change my hoses to this new system Janwillem the part from Tracy looks very similar to the KISS valve like you said I don t know why I just can tell that it works great very easy to switch easy to make a predive check of the inspiration After few dives I decided to remove the oro nasal mask from AGA FFM It was just unusable No reason to keep it in the mask I want to be sure that you know that I HAVE A MOUTHPIECE in my mask I was very detailed with Tracy and I told him that I wanted a mouthpiece It is very important to have it

    30minutes More comments and improvements of the unit are going to be added after every test dive Before the dive a check list is completed and a very good negative pressure test is overcame General impressions are very good the unit is pretty light easy to be carried on surface and underwater Swimming is perfect very low drag pretty good buoyancy I wonder how fun is to scooter with this The unit equipped with the inspiration 3lt 232bar steel cylinders is lightly negative when in use full counter lungs about 4 5lt in volume and pretty negative if staged with emptied counter lungs If staged with full counter lungs it stay in vertical position slightly negative about 2 3 kilos remember we are talking about fresh water behavior Breathing resistance is not too bad pretty good in normal horizontal position Just a little harder if you turn up side down The unit can be easily moved in different position up down in the front as well as can be completely removed for example to be attached to a decompression line so you can really optimize the breathing resistance for every condition It can be no mounted to overcome tiny restriction or it can be completely removed to be passed to a dive buddy or to the guys on the boat at the end of the dive This feature is very important if you dive from boat especially in rough sea Do not consider it if you dive only from the real comfortable ground entering of Florida caves Oxygen partial pressure is easy to be controlled and maintained The small breathing loop about 4 5lt allow you a very good control using little oxygen At the same time it is imperative to have a very good practice in manual Pp controlling system because is easy to make mistakes inside a so small amount of breathing volume as I said 4 5lt Instruments reading is very good since they are almost in the front of the diver vision Oxygauge has acoustic and visual alarms to inform you about critical parameters during the dive High PpO2 Low PpO2 Low Battery and more It has also a backlit display Very easy to keep visual control on the overpressure valve as well as operate rotate it Easy to reach and operate cylinders valves Oxygen manual addition valve and diluent addition valve It is possible in this version of the unit to real quick disconnect the Oxygen LP hose from the vis for example for a problem due to a Oxygen free flow in the loop It is also possible to connect Oxygen LP hose from other cylinders it is enough to have a BCD LP hose to connect to the rebreather vis I have not made any check to evaluate the ability of a partial and or complete flood recovery Honestly due to the design of the unit I do not think it is easily possible although there is a way that I could check
