  • IDA71 and RG-UF/M
    one of the original scrubbers the blue on the picture and without any Super oxide note the original IDA71 is equipped with a Super oxide canister who absorbs CO2 and water and delivers oxygen The left two ports for the unused scrubber coming from the breathing bag I closed with brass blanking plugs I don t use the original Russian Oxygen and Nitrox cylinders and all the low and high pressure gas lines in and outside the chassis I only use the original second stage regulator inside the breathing bag I installed the RG UF M cylinder filled with oxygen on the right side of the chassis The CMF Regulator 0 9l min of the RG UF M I used as a constant flow oxygen injection Oxygen injection is nearly always equivalent to my needs of oxygen The injection line is connected to that port at the counter lung it was originally the gas input for the purge cycle to wash out oxygen or Nitrox The black 2 l bottle is connected to the original port of the second regulator stage inside the breathing bag This is necessary in order to add diluent in the loop and for compensation of

    oxygen Function is the same like a KISS oxygen injection system but little more compact OC diving I began in 1986 My beginning in rebreather diving was in 2001 At first I used the original RG UF M than I built from the unit a Nitrox CCR with back worn diluent gas and BC and chest worn RG UF M I think you know the old pictures I sent to you from the unit Last year I began more safer SCR diving with a Dräger FGT I did a course on the unit and bought one Today I like SCR diving and the easy handling of the FGT But CCR Diving is lot more better and more fascinating Dive without any noise and bubbles When I began diving the FGT I built from an IDA 71 my second Nitrox CCR modificated Franken rig by Dave Sutton The first IDA was the green one you know from the pictures It is on already on your site Half year later I changed the system to 2 l Oxygen and 2 l diluent I added a wing and the system works great BUT IDA 71 has in my mind some problems with too much no needed hoses in the counterlung Not easy to clean and dry the parts in short time Second problem is low gas budget of the diluent bailout BC cylinder 2 liter is to small for some more bailout safety I often do longer dives between 90 and 120 min The lost of gas for BC and Drysuit inflation is too much So I changed to the rare AKA 60 The AKA 60 has lower work of breathing because i did not mount an extern jacket like on IDA is better to clean and dry only one breathing hose in

    that didnt make it into the first posting The new gray exhale tube extension and white nut do several things Redirects the exhaled gas out thru the newly ported bottom cap and directly into the single counterlung Compresses the pellet charge compaction spring black and Secures the bottom cap in place The sealing o ring which formed the critical water tight seal in the original RG UF M refillable scrubber is no longer truly required This because positioning the RGU 2 scrubber inside the counterlung eliminates the need for a critical watertight seal This eliminates a common critical failure mode from the original RG UF M refillable scrubber design which was previously exposed to the ambient water The top and bottom screens are presently made of 006 in thk woven stainless steel wire Later these will be replaced by formed 008 in thk stainless steel sheet with 020 in dia perforations Best D an D u nfee Please sign my Guestbook E mail jw bech quicknet nl Dan Dunfee build a great new rebreather He used the former East German RG UF M as a donor He made a beautiful design that could be used for your future homebuilt project
